My name is Lindsey Barnes. I was a quiet child, but I was a funny kid, and not in that "peculiar" way we've rebranded the word today. I have used comedy as both a defense mechanism and a crutch throughout my childhood and it has more often than not, proven a useful tool. Five stars, would highly recommend! I have great friends and family, and found ways to entertain them with funny listicles and rambling emails, parody songs for fun and general merriment throughout my life.
I started blogging 10 years ago to give my brain something to do that wasn't raising children and attempting to positively affect the future of our society (boring!)
After several years of blogging, I pivoted (Pivot!) to sketch writing, which I very much enjoy. As I developed my craft, I started to put up those sketches around town and realized very quickly that if I didn't like the way someone else performed my words I had two choices:
1) become a director and get good at telling people what to do and how to do it OR
2) perform them myself
As I tend to avoid conflict and confrontations at all cost, I went with option 2, and my standup career was launched.
At this point I was in the throes of child raising (I won't say child-rearing because I am adult who has the maturity level of a 13 year old and that sounds naughty). So I started standup, then stopped, then started again, then stopped again, then dabbled, then paused, and so on until I was several years, but really just several months in. Finally, I decided it was time to dedicate my time and energy to something more fulfilling than my own flesh and blood... the entertainment whims of strangers. Ah, the satisfaction was sure to follow.
A few months in to my new found hard work and dedication and the world literally shut down. I was just getting going, but as with most other comics, was forced to develop a new skill of comedy delivery: Zoom Comedy. Somehow we made it through without completely giving up on comedy, or life. And eventually the world resumed operations. I began to produce my own comedy shows, began performing more regularly and found my way into the New York comedy scene. Things were going well.
Then we decided as a family to uproot our entire existence and move overseas. I had heard that if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. I am on the precipice of discovering if that is true, or if it's just one of those things people say. I now find myself in London, learning a new comedy scene and trying to find my way all over again. I'm still raising those kids and deciding if I do comedy on the side, or if raising them is on the side of the comedy... maybe they're side by side, or swirled?
So welcome to this new page. I have old posts I may share from time to time. I'll share new videos and jokes and who knows what else (that is what they call in the business: a teaser)
If you'd like to see me perform, please click the Showtime tab, and it will take you to any upcoming shows I have.
Thanks for being on this journey with me. Let's have some fun.
